Hair Transplantation

Our hair is very important to us. It gives character to a person in the way it is styled. Some people have their hair short, some long, some wild, and some modest. It has become very important to have a full head of hair as it indicates youth and vitality, especially in men, as the older they get, the thinner the hair and loss becomes apparent. It is very common for men to seek medical help to stop this happening, or at least replace what is being lost.
There are a lot of reasons for hair loss: hormonal influences, transmissions, skin illness, stress, chemical influences, and so on.
Hair loss might even cause depression and in cases like this, hair transplantation is very helpful. Hair transplantation can be done for both men and women. You only have to be in good health and have some healthy hair left on your head to undergo hair transplantation.
The first important step before hair transplantation is a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon. During this consultation a proper examination of the patient’s head is provided and all factors are taken into the consideration and any questions are answered. Every patient receives individual care.
Hair transplantation is an operation where healthy hair roots are distributed into bare spaces. The roots are taken in a strip from a place on the head, where there is a lot of hair. After this process mini and micro transplantations are produced.
To get a perfect result you have to treat the "newly covered" places. This means that there has to be some space for the "normal covered" places. Because of that, there will be a need for a second operation after 6 to 8 months.

Pre-operative Instructions

  • After a consultation with your plastic surgeon and arranging for the operation date, you shall undergo an internal pre-operation examination. If, after the first consultation, there are any concerns about the surgery, another consultation can be arranged.
  • One month before the operation date, a deposit of €300 (you shall receive our bank-account detail as soon as the operation date has been set up) is paid and the operation date becomes binding for both parties. Please let us know immediately if, for some reason, you cannot come for the operation. There are other patients waiting to book operation dates. The remaining portion of the operation price shall be paid on the day of the operation.
  • One month before the operation, do not use any medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin etc.). It can increase bleeding during and after the surgery.
  • It is assumed that no acute illnesses occurred in the period of at least three weeks before the planned operation (viral illness, cold, etc.). Report any and all illnesses to the clinic.
  • Drink two to three liters of mineral water daily three days before the operation, however, 6 hours before the operation do not drink, eat, or smoke.
  • Have a good night’s sleep the night before the operation; you should be well rested before the operation. No alcohol may be consumed the night before the operation.
  • Wash your hair the day before the operation and do not put any facial cream, milk or make-up on the day of the operation. Any jewelry, including earrings, should not be worn.
  • We recommend for you to be accompanied by a close person in the time of your stay in Prague, at the clinic and in your hotel/suite. Immediately after the operation, you must not drive any vehicle by yourself.

Operation and Post-operative Period

The operation will be done under local anaesthetic. It takes about 3 to 4 hours and depends on how many hair-transplants are needed. At the beginning of the operation the plastic surgeon has to measure the bare places and calculate the number of hair transplants needed. Later the skin strip from the back of the head will be removed. It is about 1 cm wide and its length depends on the number of hair-transplants needed.
After that the patient rests for one hour. Meanwhile the mini and micro transplants are prepared for the operation. The big strip will be cut into smaller ones (about 1 or 2 mm2). On those small strips will be the roots (about 3 to 5 on a mini and about 1 to 2 on a micro transplantation).
During the operation the mini and micro transplants are planted in about 1 or 2 mm deep holes on the bare places of the head. The operation ends up with a bandage on the patient's head and the patient can leave the clinic.
On the 3rd post-operation day the bandage will be taken off. Then the patient will have to wash his/her hair daily with clean water. The stitches will be removed after 2 or 3 weeks. After about 2 or 3 months the hair will start to grow.
